Our wedding name, Pie Fest West, is a tribute to a party thrown by friends of my folks that I've attended since childhood.
Pie Fest (East) is a weekend-long party in very rural Pennsylvania, held on Summer Solstice every year, rain or shine, since 1974.
There is a (sometimes muddy) volleyball (pit) court, there are grandparents and toddlers, many were young that are now old(ish), there is beer, there is laughter, there is live, impromptu music and dancing, there are old old old friends and new ones, there are woods and fields to explore and a pond to swim (and perhaps skinny-dip) in , there is excess and lots of fun and.....
there is PIE.

Why we love the Humble Pie
Because every time we've gone we've had a fantastic meal. Because the record player and mismatched vintage tableware and mellow lighting of the place make us feel right at home right away. Because it is next to the Black Cat. Because Miriam and Josh are nifty, and committed to fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced cooking, and so are we. Because it's sort of how we want our kitchen to feel.
We asked (ok, sort of begged) Miriam and Josh, the folks behind Humble Pie, to please cater our wedding. We loved that they were willing to incorporate produce that we've grown here at home and that our friends will provide from their own farms and gardens. We loved that they got excited about digging a pit in our backyard in which to roast a pig.
Seriously? This party is going to have some amazing food. While we figure the menu will depend quite a bit on what's looking good in the gardens in May, we know that with Miriam and Josh in charge, it's going to be delicious no matter what.
(If you haven't yet gone to the Humble Pie, GO. And if you can, save room for pie.)

Meet Tod Brilliant, who will probably take a picture of you
We've become big admirers of his style and are thrilled that he'll be photographing our wedding.
His work was recently featured in this fantastic full spread in the Sunday Arts section of the Washington Post. Check it out, and check out his work here as well.
